Many people say that qualitative research is the only type of inquiry that education can support and I agree that qualitative research can be helpful when looking at what has worked in for several different subjects of a study through their opinions and feelings about the particular method, but I think that I could use quantitative data in this way in my action research:I can use a control group to help compare my results and also use different types of testing to get real statistical results.
ReplyDeleteMany people say that qualitative research is the only type of inquiry that education can support, and I agree that qualitative research could be useful in order to compare opinions or backgrounds of different subjects in a project, but I think that I could use quantitative data in this way: my action research project will require assessment before and after the intervention in order to determine it's effectiveness.

After reading many studies that used this type of approach, I feel that I was wondering if that was enough proof to support their conclusions. I think that quantitative research provides concrete results that you can use to analyze your studies effectiveness. I believe you could use some aspects of each.
ReplyDeleteMany people say that qualitative research is the only type of inquiry that education can support and I agree that qualitative research is a good approach if you want to use narration and description when collecting data, but I think that I could use quantitative data in my action research project because I will get immediate, concrete results on my research. Each time the student types into the computer I will receive immediate feedback, either negative or positive.

However, I think that I could use quantitative data in this way in my action research project by using a control and experimental group of participants to compare test results and determine if my intervention worked to improve the problem while also using surveys and questionnaires to assess participant perspectives.

I believe that qualitative reseach is best used for accuracy, but in a controlled research situation you might need to various research techniques or methods.
ReplyDeleteMany people say that qualitative research is the only type of inquiry that education can support and I agree that surveys and interviews can help researchers understand where their subjects are coming from, but I think that I could use quantitative data in my action research as something to support my qualitative data. The challenge with using quantitative data is that there are so many variables in a classroom that it may be difficult to create a control group and an experiment group and get valid results.
